Can a woman artisan apply for PM Vishwakarma?
Yes, absolutely. Women artisans are explicitly welcome under PM Vishwakarma and are encouraged to register. There is no separate subsidy rate for women under this scheme (unlike PMEGP), but women artisans get equal access to all benefits — recognition, training, ₹15,000 toolkit grant, 5% loan, and marketing support. Registration is done at the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) and is completely free.
Is there an income limit to apply for PM Vishwakarma?
No. There is no income ceiling to apply for PM Vishwakarma. The scheme is open to all artisans working in the 18 listed trades in the unorganised sector, regardless of their income level. The key criteria are the trade, the hands-and-tools nature of work, and working on a self-employment basis.
What training is provided under PM Vishwakarma?
PM Vishwakarma provides two stages of skill training — both free of cost:
- Basic Training: 5 to 7 days (40 hours). Covers trade-specific skills, tool usage, and business basics. A stipend of ₹500 per day is paid during training. Completing basic training makes you eligible for the first loan tranche of ₹1 lakh.
- Advanced Training: 15 days or more (120+ hours). More in-depth skill development. Completing advanced training (or adopting digital transactions) makes you eligible for the second loan tranche of ₹2 lakh.
Training is arranged by MSME Technology Centres, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and other accredited centres near your district.
What is the toolkit grant and how is it given?
Every registered artisan who begins basic training receives a toolkit grant of up to ₹15,000 as an e-voucher. This e-voucher can be used to purchase modern, quality tools relevant to your trade from empanelled vendors. The toolkit grant is given at the start of basic skill training — it is not a cash payment. It is meant to upgrade your tools so you can improve the quality and productivity of your work.
What is the digital transaction incentive under PM Vishwakarma?
Once registered and trained, artisans receive ₹1 per digital transaction (UPI, card payments etc.) made or received in relation to their business. This incentive applies to a maximum of 100 transactions per month, meaning you can earn up to ₹100 per month from this benefit. It is credited directly to your bank account and is designed to encourage digital payments in the artisan economy.
How does the PM Vishwakarma loan work?
The loan is called an Enterprise Development Loan and comes in two tranches:
First tranche: Up to ₹1 lakh — available after completing basic training. Repayment tenure of 18 months.
Second tranche: Up to ₹2 lakh — available after repaying the first tranche, maintaining a standard loan account, and either adopting digital transactions or completing advanced training. Repayment tenure of 30 months.
Both tranches are at a concessional interest rate of 5% per annum. The Government of India provides an 8% interest subvention to the bank. No collateral or guarantor is required. 100% CGTMSE guarantee coverage is provided on these loans.
What is the interest rate on the PM Vishwakarma loan?
The interest rate is 5% per annum — fixed for both tranches. The actual bank lending rate is higher (typically 13%), but the Government of India provides an 8% interest subvention directly to the bank, so you only pay 5%. This is a significant concession compared to market rates of 12–18% for unsecured business loans.
Do I need collateral or a guarantor for the PM Vishwakarma loan?
No collateral and no guarantor is required. PM Vishwakarma enterprise development loans are fully covered under the CGTMSE guarantee scheme — with 100% guarantee coverage. This means the government itself backs the loan to the bank, which is why no property or third-party guarantee is needed from you.
What happens if I already have a Mudra loan — can I still get the PM Vishwakarma loan?
It depends on whether your Mudra loan is fully repaid or still outstanding:
- If you took a Mudra loan in the last 5 years and it is still outstanding — you are not eligible for the PM Vishwakarma loan.
- If your Mudra loan has been fully repaid — you are eligible to apply. The same rule applies to PM SVANidhi loans.
- PMEGP beneficiaries with an outstanding PMEGP loan are not eligible regardless of repayment status within 5 years.
